The Marina breakwater is available for the public to enjoy. The structure is the largest floating breakwater in the southern hemisphere with a total length just over 950m. The public enjoy the facility for walking, running, fishing and generally enjoying the feeling of floating on the water with the majestic views of the city. Access is controlled by a security gate which is opened at sunrise and closed at sunset during summer months. Access to the facility is only limited during periods of actual or forecast adverse weather. We recommend reading the safety warnings posted at the entry to the breakwater and ask that all visitors observe the rules and opening times posted on the same sign.
A comprehensive Ferry service connects the Marina with Auckland City. The service is run by Fullers Auckland and runs half hourly at peak times and hourly at commuter offpeak times. The ride takes less than 10 minutes.
